The name Merle Dixon brings up some strong feelings for any “Walking Dead” fan. Played by Michael Rooker, Merle is the older and for more crude brother of fan favorite Daryl Dixon. College Times had the opportunity to speak with Rooker before his visit about being Merle, playing a zombie and his time on the show.
The cast and crew of The Walking Dead take you on the set of one of the most climactic scenes of this season.

Michael Rooker’s portrayal of Merle has been one of the show’s best performances, and it’s truly sorry that this southern straw that stirred so many drinks had to join the dearly, horribly departed. At least he went out with a bang.
On a show filled with characters suffering from apocalypse PTSD, Merle is the one guy who consistently seemed to be having a ball. He loved killing zombies. He loved fighting zombies in the gladiator pits, to the roar of approval from the crowd. Nothing could better express the creators’ confusion than the weird, wonderful, and utterly incoherent path of Merle Dixon, a full-crazy knife-handed zombie thrillkiller who died twice in last night’s episode.
